Plan the dewatering of a basement, shaft or trench. Lay wells around the excavation and the studio finds the pumping needed to hold the water below formation by superposing the Dupuit–Thiem drawdown of every well, with Sichardt's radius of influence and well yield, an equivalent-well check of the inflow, and drawdown contours on a plan. It checks the excavation base for uplift over a confined aquifer, piping at the toe of sheet piles and base heave in soft clay, and estimates the settlement of neighbouring buildings from the lowered water table — with plans, sections, a 3D view, calculation sheets and Excel.
Scope & limitations
Preliminary dewatering design for study and planning. Permeability must come from site testing; confirm groundwater licensing and discharge approvals, and monitor drawdown and neighbouring settlement during pumping.
What the Dewatering & Excavation Studio does
Wells and drawdown: enter the aquifer (unconfined or confined), its permeability and water level, and the excavation. Wells are laid out around the excavation and the pumping is sized so the water is held below formation at the corners, edges and centre. Drawdown from all wells is superposed with the Dupuit–Thiem equations, the radius of influence follows Sichardt, each well is checked against its yield limit, and the total is compared with an equivalent-well inflow.
Base stability: uplift of a clay plug over a confined aquifer (weight of the plug against the water pressure beneath, with the piezometric level needed for the required factor of safety), piping and heave at the toe of a sheeted excavation in sand (average and exit gradients against the critical gradient, with the embedment needed), and base heave of a cut in soft clay after Bjerrum and Eide with Skempton's bearing factor.
Drawdown settlement: the lowered water table raises the effective stress in each layer by γw times the drawdown; settlement is summed through the profile with the constrained modulus of each layer and plotted with distance from the excavation, giving the settlement and angular distortion of a neighbouring building against limits.
Output: a plan with drawdown contours and check points, a section with the lowered water surface, base stability sketches, a settlement profile, a 3D view of the drawdown surface, PDF calculation sheets, A3 drawings and Excel.
