Temporary Works Studio

Design the temporary works that build the permanent ones. Check slab falsework from the sheathing through joists, bearers and props under AS 3610 placement loads; wall and column forms under CIRIA 108 concrete pressure with studs, walers and ties; access scaffolds by duty class to AS/NZS 1576 with leg loads, standard buckling, ties and base bearing; and multi-storey propping and backpropping with the Grundy and Kabaila load-sharing sequence — with sections, plans, elevations, a 3D view, calculation sheets and Excel.

Scope & limitations

Preliminary temporary works design for study and planning. Member and prop capacities are indicative — use the supplier's data, and have temporary works designed, certified and inspected by a competent person before loading.

What the Temporary Works Studio does

Slab formwork: wet concrete, formwork self-weight and construction live load combine as 1.2G + 1.5Q; the sheathing, joists and bearers are checked as continuous members for bending, shear and deflection, the props against their working load limit at the extension, and the notional 2.5% horizontal load for bracing is reported.

Wall and column forms: the CIRIA Report 108 design pressure follows from the form height, rate of rise, temperature and concrete type; sheathing, studs and walers are checked and the tie load compared with the tie working load limit.

Scaffolds: AS/NZS 1576 duty loads per platform give the leg loads, checked against the buckling capacity of the standard over a lift; the sole board bearing, wind on shadecloth, tie forces and spacing are checked.

Propping: the Grundy and Kabaila sequence tracks how each fresh pour is shared through the props and backprops, giving the peak slab load and prop force against the early-age slab capacity and prop WLL. Output: sections, plans, elevations, a load-history chart, a 3D view, PDF calculation sheets, A3 drawings and Excel.
