Shape the ground from the survey to the haul plan. Import survey points and get a triangulated ground model with contours; lay out building pads, car parks and ramps with falls, structural layers and batters and drag their corners; read cut and fill by three methods with topsoil, bulking and compaction; balance the site, cut sections, run the mass haul and size the plant and programme. The survey tools adjust traverses and level books, set out points and curves, and everything goes to a 3D model, an A3 drawing set, Excel, LandXML, DXF and a priced bill of quantities.
Scope & limitations
Preliminary earthworks design and survey reduction. Volumes depend on the survey density and the stated bulking and compaction factors; batters over 3 m, fill on soft ground and cuts below the water table need geotechnical advice; control surveys should be adjusted and certified by a licensed surveyor.
What the site earthworks & survey studio does
Paste or import survey points (E, N, RL and code — CSV, TXT or XYZ in any column order) and the studio triangulates them into a Delaunay ground model, shades it by elevation or slope and draws existing contours with index labels. The site boundary limits the works, and long thin hull triangles can be filtered out.
Design building pads, car parks, hardstands and ramps as polygons with a finished level, cross-falls in two directions and a structural layer (slab and base or pavement), then drag their corners on the plan. Cut and fill batters at their own slopes run out from every pad edge until they daylight on the ground; overlapping batters between pads are resolved, and the daylight line and cut/fill line are drawn.
Volumes are calculated three ways — triangulated prisms with the zero line split exactly, grid cells by the corner average and average end areas on sections — with topsoil stripping, bulking and compaction factors for soil and rock, imported fill, surplus and truck loads. A solver shifts the pads in balance to a target surplus and a sensitivity chart shows cut, fill and net against the pad level.
Sections with a datum table, cross-sections, a mass haul diagram with an optimal one-dimensional haul assignment (free haul, overhaul, economic haul limit, spoil and borrow) and plant output and programme (excavator, trucks, rollers, density testing to the code) complete the earthworks. Survey tools adjust a closed or link traverse by Bowditch or the transit rule, reduce a level book by rise and fall and height of collimation with misclosure distribution, set out points by bearing, angle and distance with staff readings, and set out horizontal and vertical curves.
Outputs: a 3D model of the existing and design surfaces coloured by cut and fill, an A3 drawing set, calculation sheets (PDF), Excel with live formulas, CSV of the design grid and set-out, LandXML surfaces, DXF contours and pads, and a priced bill of quantities.
